This book, written by Richard Tout, presents a detailed chronicle of the Phillips family and their enduring connection to the baking trade in Tetbury.
Originating from a collection of family photographs and drawing on census, probate and register records, newspaper archives and data from the History of Tetbury Society’s own archives, the book is a comprehensive history that covers everything from the running of the business to the bakery’s entries in the Tetbury Show.
Complementing this research are the author’s own recollections and family anecdotes – personal accounts that breathe life into the historical record, preserving the atmosphere of a bygone era.
The society is grateful to Richard for making his book available to read.
The book is available on the society’s new archive site here (note that this is a large file and might take a minute to load):
