stone building known as Huguenot chapel

The “Huguenot Chapel”

One of Tetbury’s little mysteries is why a small, circular stone building near the junction of Hampton Street and Chavenage Lane should be called the Huguenot Chapel. Eric Hodson, in his History of Tetbury (1976) notes that the Pauls, a well-known Tetbury family, may have been descended from Huguenot immigrants but fails to connect them with the building. Tile structure, described as a low dovecote with an internal diameter of ten feet, was probably never anything other than a garden shelter or ornament.
